What Would Jane Austen Do?

A reader just emailed me to say that she's started a blog and decided to name it "What Would Jane Austen Do?" Isn't that a fabulous name for a blog? Doesn't it just immediately make you smile?

Being a daydreamer, this got me thinking about what Jane Austen would indeed do and how much I would like for her to be on my "cosmic board of directors" if there were such a thing. I'd also invite Katherine Hepburn, Lucy Honeychurch, Diane Keaton, Eleanor Roosevelt, Audrey Hepburn, Karen Blixen, Emily Post and Coco Chanel to sit on the board. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't get along at all, but it would still be marvelous and the advice would be incredible.

Who would be on you cosmic board of directors? Post your suggestion below.

Who wouldn't love Emily Post to whisper in you ear? I love some of the ones you chose. Audrey is a classic of grace, beauty and style, but also a humanitarian. I think Coco is great because she was smart and stylish, but also a great business woman. I guess in addition to some of the ones you listed I would choose my favorite woman from history, Abigail Adams... just for the lively combination of being smart, tough and feminine. (one of my favorite books is about Abigail called Dearest Friend by Lynne Withey)

Your list is really difficult to beat though. Fun post!

I would probably choose Katharine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Diane Keaton, Grace Kelly, Sarah Vowell, Martha Stewart, Barbara Jordan, and Jackie O.

Laura Ingalls Wilder (I desperately wanted to be her when I was little), Dolly Parton (just for the 'tude), Maureen O'Hara (lovely), Madeleine L'Engle (one of my favorite authors), and Linda Carter. I have a scar on the back of my head from my failed attempt to spin around fast enough to become Wonder Woman, so Linda Carter owes me big-time.

Ooo! These are all so good! I especially like Sarah Vowell and Dolly Parton.

Katherine Hepburn, Barbara Stanwyck (moxie!), Bette Davis (attitude), Drew Barrymore (her obvious love of life), Ellen DeGeneres (her sense of humor), Alicia Paulson {of Posie Gets Rosy blog), Helen Mirren (her bawdiness!), and Emma Thompson (wicked fun and intelligent).
