Things I Love Today: Paper Whites

I saw a pot of paperwhites at the market last night and was almost blown over by the thought of spring. Spring! I always seem to forget about this particular season. Which is sort of a nice surprise each year just when I'm just about sick of all these dark nights.

Is it too late to start a batch of paperwhites inside? If not, I've discovered that apparently gin is the secret.

it's definitely not too late to start a batch of paperwhites.
I grow paperwhites continuously from fall to spring. It's lovely to enjoy fresh flowers during the cold dark months, which here in New England = November through March. Believe me, that's a lot of cold, dark months! Paperwhites and african violets help me keep my sanity.

You can certainly start them now. I love walking into my little house to smell them about this time of year. And gin or vodka will work to keep them shorter, as will rubbing alch.
