I'm imagining all-Japanese holiday decor this year. With paper and fabric supplies from our trip to Japan, there's all kind of wrapping and ornaments to be made. These quilted fabric balls are apparently sold at a big monthly flea market in Kyoto. Wouldn't they be pretty strung up on a ribbon around the mantelpiece?
How is it possible that Martha Stewart hasn't already done a Japanese Christmas theme?
Those little quilt balls (called temari) are sold all over Japan and aren't hard to make either! They make wonderful Christmas ornaments too - I have seen entire trees trimmed in them! If you need any advice about flea markets (called shrine sales as they are held at shrines) let me know!

ReplyDeleteI've been to a few of the shrine sales too and the big flea market in Kyoto (assuming it's the same one). So much great stuff, not nearly enough space in my suitcase!
